2011
- Comp. time bill allowing 2 years instead of 1 year to use it, HB988. Governor signed it
- Stopped the pay cut of 7% to all unit employees at TDCJ
- Stopped the 2 year career ladder freeze for CO's
- Stopped the increase in Insurance Premiums
- Stopped the bill to not allow state employees the right to lobby for their rights
- Stopped TDCJ employees from having to pay for their uniforms, lose of personal laundry service at the unit, pay market rate for meals on the unit. We also stopped the pay for unit housing. The TDCJ board imposed their own new housing payment policy
- Stopped the bill to move TDCJ HQ to Austin. This would have cost millions the state did not have so it would have come out of TDCJ's budget
- Stopped the bill to not let TDCJ retirees come back and earn pay and retirement funds at the same time
- Stopped any CO layoffs
- Stopped the attempt to privatize all state jails and privatization of inmate transportation
- Elminated two private prisons
- Stopped the elimination of longevity pay by state Rep. Erwin Cain in HB 2954

In 2003 AFSCME negotiated changing the L4 disciplinary enhancement to staying on your record for one year instead of two.
We did it again in the 2001 Session!
- 4% Increase for Higher Education: UTMB, Texas Tech and Non- Security Personnel. PASSED
- Correctional Officers Career Ladder: Entry Level CO’s, 8% Increase; Veteran Officer (8yrs). PASSED
- SB 292: Retirees Dues Deduction- Authorizes the Retirement system to deduct from all retirees a monthly annual payment equal to the amount of the fee for that person’s membership in a state organization. PASSED
- Lobbied for and supported – legislative approved medical coverage set aside funds, off setting Employee out of pocket expense. PASSED
- 16.25% increase with commensurate %’s from CO II’s and up. Including Majors.
- HB 3185: Professional Respect Now (passed by Senate and House, vetoed by Governor 6/17/01)

- We negotiated for 3 tardies before being written up.
- Sergeant's Overtime; After constructive talks with AFSCME, TDCJ changed the classification for Sergeants so that they now have O.T.
AFSCME is the only Correctional Employees Union to have consistent labor management meetings
